R&D VISA
Visa Introduction
Under the R&D Visa Program, a person who is not from the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland, investing in research in Portugal, namely through its academic and scientific talent and knowledge, can be granted a Portuguese Residence Permit for themselves and their immediate family members.
The R&D Visa Program is open to all candidates with solid academic qualifications and can lead to settlement in Portugal.
In order to apply for a R&D Visa, most applicants will need to receive an endorsement from an appropriate educational establishment or research centre, among others, in the fields of science, business, engineering, medicine, social science and humanities, digital technology and arts, and culture.

Your first residence permit is valid for 2 years, after which you will have to apply for its renewal and you will receive a second residence permit valid for 3 years.
